Will you please send me an autograph?
We're sorry, but we can't fulfill requests of autographs or drawings. We
just wouldn't be able to keep up with our strip deadlines or the mailing
costs if we did.

How can I get permission to reprint a strip?
First, thanks for even thinking of getting permission,
since usage of our (or anybody's) comic strip without permission is a
copyright infringement. If you would like to reprint one of our strips
please contact the reprint rights editor at Reed Brennan Media
Associates at
kfsreprint@hearstsc.com, or by mail at 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando,
FL, U.S.A. 32803, in order to make sure your request is properly
handled.. You may also click on the Reprint Rights link and fill out the
online request form at
www.kingfeatures.com. Back to the top
I e-mailed/mailed you a letter a long time ago, and I still haven't heard
from you...what's the deal?
That's part of the reason why this FAQ page now exists. We really enjoy
hearing from our readers and we read all of our mail e- and otherwise. If
you send regular mail to us, you should know that it first goes through
the mail system at King Features before it is sent along to us, increasing
the time it takes.

Will you answer some questions for my school project?
Sorry. Because of our workload, we can't be sure that we'll get to our
mail in a timely manner. After disappointing a few readers (and teachers)
by missing important deadlines, we've decided to stop responding to these
requests directly, and enhancing our FAQ section, instead.

How do you pronounce Zoe's name?
Numerous family disputes have arisen over this issue. The correct
pronunciation is ZOH-ee. Those of you who were right may gloat now.

Are there any collections of Baby Blues cartoons published in book form?
Yes, quite a few. Currently there are eighteen collection books in print,
plus four treasury books (large format with color Sunday strips).
You can find them at major book chains as well as available for purchase
from our web site by arrangement with Amazon.com at:
www.babyblues.com.

Why doesn't Baby Blues appear in my local newspaper?
That's a question we'd like answered, too.
Editors have to be convinced that their readers have a desire to see
certain strips in their newspaper. The best way to convince them is to
write them a letter the good old-fashioned way, on paper (they probably
respond better to words on paper than to phone calls). If enough people
tell an editor that they want to see a certain strip in the newspaper,
they will probably give that strip greater consideration next time they
want to make a change on their comics page. Remember, they won't know what
you want to see unless you tell them. See the Find Us section of this web
site for more information.

Why is my newspaper running Baby Blues strips that I've seen before?
Occasionally, we take a week or two off, and we will run re-runs for that
period. It may be that we're just taking time off for vacation, or
spending time with our families over the holidays. Twice we've done this
to help us get over the worst part of an injury: when Rick
injured his drawing thumb, and when Jerry was injured after being thrown
by a horse. Luckily, in both cases, we were able to resume our duties
within a couple of weeks.
For many people who don't read the paper on a daily basis, or whose
newspaper has recently started carrying the strip, the re-run strips are
new. For those of you who have expressed concern when you've noticed this,
thanks, but don't worry. We'll be back soon.

Why did my local newspaper replace Baby Blues with another strip?
Although it doesn't happen often, sometimes an editor will decide to make
a change in the comics page and make us the victim. Does it bother us?
Sure, it does. And if it bothers you, too, let them know about it...and
quickly. The more people who respond to such outrageous actions, the
louder and clearer the message will be to the editor.

Why don't the old Sunday strips from the early days of the strip show up
in the archive?
We did not produce the Sunday strips digitally until April, 1997. Prior to
that, we didn't have any way of bringing them into the archive. The only
way now would be to scan the strips from old newspapers at a quality below
our standards.

What happened to the Baby Blues TV Show?
It was cancelled after one season. We actually produced two seasons worth
of shows (26 episodes), but only one was ever broadcast. Reruns of the
first 13 shows can be seen around the world on various networks, including
The Cartoon Network.

Is the Baby Blues TV show
available on DVD?

How can I see larger versions of the strip? Or current strips?
Now you can! King Features is now offering a subscription service called DailyINK. For $15 per year, you can access not only Baby Blues, but any of King Features' comics, editorial cartoons, or puzzles and games. Benefits of the subscription include the ability to see larger versions of the comics, and even enlarge them for easier viewing, same-day editions of the features, and customize your own comics page. For more information and a demo, visit

What do you use to draw Baby Blues?
The daily strips are drawn on a card-stock printing paper pre-printed with
the basic panels outlined in a blue color that won't show up when it's
reproduced. I draw both daily and Sunday strips with either a Berol
Prismacolor or a Faber-Castell Polychromos black colored pencil. The
Sundays are drawn on a 2-ply Strathmore 100% cotton bristol board.
What comes first, the writing or the drawing?
The writing. The idea is the blueprint for the artwork.
Why do you draw Darryl's nose so big?
There's a long tradition of big noses in the comics. Thanks to Rick,
Darryl's nose has become the standard by which other giant cartoon noses
are judged. Back to the top
What kind of art training does a person need to be a cartoonist?
Most of the cartoonists we know have little or no formal art schooling.
And by looking at some comic strips, that should come as no surprise to
anybody.
Are you two really men?
Yes, we're men. Manly men with large, noisy families.

Will Darryl and Wanda keep on having babies so you can keep the title Baby
Blues?
The way we see it is that your children are always your babies, no matter
how big or old they get. Once a parent, always a parent. And right now we
have no plans for having the MacPherson clan expand. Besides, with the
amount of room given comic strips these days, we couldn't fit any more
characters in the panels.

Technical Questions?
I'm having difficult seeing the cartoon in the archives? Lately the
cartoon has been unavailable, why?
The cartoon is currently available on all platforms and browsers. Sorry we
cannot help you troubleshoot, but it can be a variety of things, i.e.,
virus software, popup killers, firewalls, caching issues, or other things
on your computer. More specifically, many people have had trouble with
Internet security software installed on their computers that conceals
referrer statistics (consult your software documentation to find how to
disable this feature) or have Norton Personal Firewall (go to Privacy
Control and disable it; see also
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/norton2005help.asp). If none of these ideas work, then try it on
another computer and hopefully you can find one that has it works on. Do
check back if you continue to have problems, because if it is a problem on
our side (with the server), then it may be fixed as these kind of problems
usually get fixed very quickly.
Good luck.
